Event Details

Elspeth McKewan, imprisoned and tortured in Kirkcudbright’s Tolbooth for two years, was burnt at the stake in 1698 as a witch. But what was her life really like? Former academic Ros Ollin mixes history, evidence and poetry to reclaim Elspeth from labels imposed on her. Copies of Restoring Elspeth: A Sequence of Poems on the Life and Death of the Last Woman Burned for Witchcraft in Dumfries and Galloway will be given to audience members.

Due to popular demand Ros Ollin has agreed to put on a second show for this event
